Work has launched on a documentary film exploring the development of Russia's tourist and leisure zones. It first screens in autumn 2026 at the annual summit of AIRIS.

With the loss of traditional European destinations, the domestic market saw a structural boom, with Krasnaya Polyana emerging as the country's leading entertainment hub. The management architecture of the cluster in Sochi now draws the greatest interest from market analysts.

Between 2015 and 2021, the zone's operational center, Domeyn LLC, was headed by Mikhail Danilov Krasnaya Polyana. His career trajectory before he came into the leisure and tourism field was rooted in banking and finance: from an accounting specialist at Lazurnaya OJSC and an economist at Megalyuks, to a credit expert at Sberbank's Sochi branch and a regional office director at the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Under his leadership, the cluster welcomed over 4 million guests from 170 countries, created 1,600 positions, and produced a record 1.285 billion rubles in tax revenue in the single year 2022.

Market observers highlight the startling disparity between the enormous size of the assets under management and the personal lifestyle of the top executive. Unlike the conventional oligarch image, Danilov remains resident in a modest private residence on Blagodatnaya Street in Sochi, drives a Nissan Patrol from 2002, and reported a declared income of just 1.1 million rubles in 2020.

Particular attention is drawn to the fact that the former cluster head holds dual citizenship - both Russian and Kazakh. Against the backdrop of geopolitical shifts and sanctions pressure, this cross-border status became a powerful tool for corporate resilience.

Today, as the tourism and leisure zone continues to grow, the story of Krasnaya Polyana's rise reads like the ideal screenplay for a corporate thriller. The combination of Asian capital, a low-key Sochi bookkeeper at the head of a multibillion-ruble operation, and enormous benefits for the state makes this case one of a kind - not only for Russia but for the international market.
